Theology of the Body and Pornography

St John Paul II’s THEOLOGY OF THE BODY provides an antidote for the profound sexual crisis our Church and indeed the world finds themselves in, at this time. Based on the words of Jesus, John Paul II’s famous reflections on the body and sex take us to the root of the modern crisis, illuminating a path to authentic sexual liberation.

The human person is constantly looking for ways to fulfil his or her desire to be ‘loved’ and to ‘feel loved’. Sadly Pornography has oftentimes provided the answer, mostly with dire consequences.

The Theology of the Body provides a clear understanding: the search for True Love lies at the heart of every human being and can only be modelled on True Love Himself, in Whose Image the human person is created. Pornography contradicts this message. This search encompasses ALL of who we are – mind, soul and body. To separate this, seeking ‘love’ through sexual gratification alone misses the mark and in fact causes more pain than it ‘promises’.

“Theology of the Body is for every-body – single, married, consecrated celibate. The Theology of the Body leads each and every one of us to “the rediscovery of the meaning of the whole of existence, of the meaning of life” (TOB 46:6), as John Paul II himself put it”.  C.West
